Fiber optic technology involves a glass or plastic fiber that carries light along its length. Light is kept at the core of the fiber by internal reflection. Light can enter the fiber throughout the length of the sides, but it cannot leave except at the ends. This is sort of like how the “greenhouse effect” traps heat.
