A gun itself is an inanimate object, but it can be extremely dangerous if misused. In fact, other than wounded wild animals and menacing street thugs, there are few things in life as dangerous as a gun. If you are a gun owner, you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to make certain that your gun is safe, regardless of its state: loaded or unloaded. If you’re going to store your gun away, we recommend some form of lock. We carry both trigger locks and cable locks, as well as many forms of safes.

The use of the trigger lock is self-evident: it locks on the trigger. To use a cable lock, you want to run the cable in through the magazine well and out through the ejection port, then attach the lock. Of course, with a cable lock, you have to leave the gun unloaded. If you want to safely keep a loaded gun around for home protection reasons, we recommend using a gunsafe. Some of the models that we sell have combination locks in a finger button configuration. You can keep your loaded pistol in one, and have the peace of mind that it will not be found and misused. In an emergency, you can open them by feel. The combination is programmable, so set it to something you’ve memorized: your wife’s birthday, your social security number maybe.

All of the safes we carry have mounting holes, so they’ll stay right where you put them. Being responsible gun owners ourselves, we cannot stress the importance of gun safety enough. This is particularly true if you have children in the house. You might think you’ve hidden your gun, or put it up high enough that your child won’t ever find it. But kids are resourceful and crafty. If left unattended, they will often explore areas that are “off limits”. You don’t want to deal with the gut-wrenching tragedy that is a child with a bullet wound, or even a dead son or daughter. If you have a gun in the house, and you have children, do the responsible thing and make sure your gun is safely locked away until you’re ready to use it hunting, at the range, or to defend your family. |
